How do I set my Computer Name on Windows Playground Servers?

By default, Windows Servers in the Playground have a Computer Name of "Linux Academy". There is a separate public DNS hostname based on your Linux Academy username assigned and mapped to the public IP address of the server as well. If you would like these to match (as they do on Linux Servers by default) you can follow these instructions to change your Windows Server Computer Name:

  1. Create a Windows Server and wait for it to reach 'Ready' status.
  2. Connect to the Graphical Shell or with RDP to view the Windows Desktop.
  3. Open the Settings menu.
  4. Click on System.

  7. Enter the new name you wish to assign (note that a Computer Name cannot be a fully qualified domain name and cannot include periods in the name) and click Next.

  8. You will be prompted to Restart Now or Restart later. The new computer name will be applied on next restart. Click Restart Now to apply it immediately.
